Believer's baptism is a public witness and testimony to one's faith in Jesus Christ by immersion in water before a crowd of witnesses. According to the Apostle Paul, baptism symbolizes being buried with Christ in his death and raised to new life through his resurrection (Romans 6:4). Why Is Baptism Important? Jesus set the example for baptism through his humble obedience to God when he was baptized by John in the Jordan river (Luke 3:21-22). Following his resurrection he commanded his followers to make disciples, "baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19). Consequently baptism was taught (Romans 6:3-5) and practiced (Acts 8:38; Acts 10:47-48; Acts 16:14-15; Acts 16:33) by the early church.
Who Can Be Baptized? Any person who has personally received Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, and has begun a new life in Christ, may request baptism. (Acts 8:36-38).
How Do I Receive Water Baptism? If you would like to be baptized at The Bridge, please please contact Josh Hawley. A letter will be mailed to you detailing the next steps. Those steps will involve the following:
- Attendance at a baptism class to help you understand what you are doing and to help write your testimony. Classes are held the first Sunday of each month at 9:30am and 11am.
- Writing your personal testimony.
- Actual presentation of your public testimony and immersion in water during a Sunday service.
Note: Every year on Good Friday, just before Easter we also have a special service for those desiring to be Baptised.
Will you consider following the Lord and demonstrating your obedience to him by being baptized?
